Five Lakes Region & Pfaffenwinkel

South of the Bavarian capital of Munich and very close to the Upper Bavarian Alps, five lakes characterize what is probably the most beautiful region in Germany. Formed by the last great ice age, the region offers its visitors much more than “just” a spectacular panorama and a unique view. In addition to the scenery, it is above all the numerous cultural, sporting and recreational activities for which the region is so well-known and popular.

Bernried – At the end of a picturesque avenue, directly opposite our hotel, you will find the unique St. Martin’s Church, characterized by the late Renaissance style, which is not only very popular with wedding parties, but is also always worth a spontaneous visit.

Bernried – At the heart of the Buchheim Museum is the famous Expressionist collection of paintings, watercolors, drawings and prints. But the museum is also worth a visit for its architecture; a special attraction here is a footbridge suspended 12 meters above Lake Starnberg.

Bernried – Past centuries-old oak trees, the approx. 80-hectare Bernried Park with its numerous hiking trails and benches invites you to linger.

Small bathing bays with sandy bottoms also tempt you to take a few refreshing dips in the lake in summer.

Höhenried – The destination of a short walk past the Buchheim Museum is the impressive Höhenried Castle, built in 1937, in the middle of the extensive Höhenried park. The inviting footpaths around the castle not only lead you directly along the lakeshore, but also past an enclosure inhabited by rare white fallow deer.

Iffeldorf – The Osterseen nature reserve is a unique upland moor landscape with a unique natural environment, consisting of 19 small lakes, which are also known as the “tears of Lake Starnberg”. Pöcking – The museum located in Possenhofen’s historic train station was created in honor of Empress Elisabeth “Sissi”. The young Elisabeth spent her summers with her parents and siblings at Possenhofen Castle, which is just a 10-minute walk from the museum.

Pöcking – The magnificent castle is located just a short distance from the lake and was once the summer residence of the young Empress Elisabeth, aka “Sissi”. Walk in her footsteps through the former castle park and enjoy the incomparable natural surroundings. The castle is now privately owned and unfortunately cannot be visited from the inside.
